DIY: Make Your Own Growth Chart

I've had Nugget's growth charts in the works since he could stand.

I hated the idea of spending at least $50 on the cute canvas ones on Etsy. I thought about painting my own canvas one, but I'm not that skilled. I saw a wooden ruler one on Pinterest and decided to put my own spin on it to match Nugget's space themed nursery

When Hubs was at Home Depot buying the wood for my race medal holder I had him look for something for the growth chart. I wanted something that was 3 feet high, by about 6 inches wide. All they had was 6 feet by 6 inches, so he had them cut it and bought that (yay for a back up piece of wood in case I mess up).

I bought letters at Hobby Lobby as well as wood decorations to give it the look I wanted. The letters I bought, in hindsight, were a big large and I probably should've gotten smaller ones. Also, in my opinion, Hobby Lobby has the best assortment of pre-painted wood decorations (animals, flowers, shapes, etc) and they're only 69 cents. 

Here's what you need:

1 piece of wood. Size depends on how tall, but I wanted mine to go from 2'-5' so it's 3'x6"

Wood letters

Wood decorations

Paint

Glue gun

Sawtooth picture hanger

I painted the piece of wood and the letters in the colors I wanted. I also painted over the wood spaceship and UFO because I didn't like the original colors. (If you paint over these, you will need to do a few coats to get it to look nice). The last thing I painted on was the measurements from 2' to 5'. I lined up a ruler and marked off each inch on the board and painted it on.

Next I laid everything out exactly where I wanted it and hot glued them into place.

Then I nailed in a sawtooth picture hanger.

Last step was to hang it.

Easy peasy. 

The wood was $6 (which I have 2 pieces, so would be great if you have 2 kids)

Letters were $1 each

Pack of wood stars $3

Wood spaceship and UFO - .69c each

Paint - already had but is less than $1

Sawtooth picture hanger - already had, but can't imagine it's more than $1

So it cost me less than $20 to make and the only thing that took a while was waiting for the paint to dry.
