To help get into the spirit of my first half-marathon this Sunday, I decided to get a little crafty and make a bib/medal holder.
Right now I only have 2 race bibs. They've been sitting on my desk, longing for a home, for over a month. There was no way my super bling-tastic Disney Princess Half medal was going to just sit around and college dust - that girl needs a place to hang!
I had the idea for this project after doing The Color Run in January, but never got much done for it. Thankfully, I had cut out the letters I needed onto vinyl before my Silhouette decided to not work for me, so I was able to get this project done this weekend.
Here's what you need:
A piece of wood (I used 12"x12")
Paint
Paper or vinyl
Eye Hooks (I used 5/8" ones)
The Hubs had to go up to Home Depot last weekend, so I told him to get me a 12x12 piece of wood. Apparently, they have scrap bins and he found me a piece for 80c (he actually found 2 and bought both in case I messed up broke it somehow). I marked where I wanted the holes for my hooks and used a drill to make holes in the wood.
I painted the square. I used my Silhouette to cut the saying I wanted out of vinyl. I like the saying "Run like a girl" so that's what I decided to use on mine.
You can use the letters like I did, putting them directly on the wood, or you can put the vinyl onto the board, without the actual letters, using it as a stencil and paint the words on. If you're feeling really crafty, and or lacking a cutting tool, you can print onto paper what you want to say, cut out the letters using an x-acto knife, and then use that as a stencil.
I then screwed in the eye hooks, hung up my bibs, and voila! It's all finished.
My total cost was next to nothing. 80 cents for the wood, I already had the eye hooks (I think it's a few dollars for a pack of those), already had the paint (can get for $1), and I already had the vinyl (which was $6 with a coupon), but if you use paper for a stencil that's basically free.

This took hardly any time at all and is a great (and fairly cheap way) to display your hard earned bibs and bling.
I can't wait to get my first medal on there this weekend!

That looks great! I need to figure out a way to display my bibs and medals. They are just piled on my dresser right now!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really easy way to display them :) I just put 2 small nails in the back and used some picture wire I had handy to hang it up on my wall.
